The afromartha Shop is Back!

I am so very excited to announce the re-opening of my Etsy Shop:

It’s been a long time coming as I’ve gone back and forth over a product line. Sometimes having multiple talents can feel more like a curse than the blessing it really is, when you have to narrow down to one or two things you want to spend your days working on.

So, everyone who has spent any time on this blog knows that I am in love with surface design. I always thought that the only path was to design fabrics and then make something out of them. Well, Instead of fabrics I scaled down a bit, to small little squares of delight for your space, in the form of ceramic coasters!

You may recognize this first design as “Diamonds and Chevs”. I first introduced this design here. Can be purchased here.

This next design is called ‘Pulpy’. This variation comes to you in brown and green. Can be purchased here.

This next design I call “Stone Piles”. Can be purchased here.

Last but not the least, is ‘Pulpy’ again in red and yellow. Can be purchased here.

Rounding out my starting line-up of products:

yes, yes, y’all! AfroMartha is making soap again, and it is for sale!

For those of you who don’t know, I started making soap in December of 1998 after stumbling into a book about bath products. It was as if the sky had opened up. Previous to this, that I could actually make such a thing from basic raw materials had never occurred to me. I spent the next few years learning the ins and outs of soapmaking, and branched into body and spa quality products…and then I stopped. I abandoned soap and any form of bath products for a few years. It just felt (at that time) that the thrill was gone.

I thought I was done with soap, but apparently I’m not. One day while looking for soap to purchase at the store, I thought to myself “what am I doing? I make MUCH better soap than this!” Just like that, I’m back in it. And now you can have some too.

Oh, and guess what that fabulous packaging is? Yup, my designs! What better way to combine 2 of the things I love?

So, I humbly present to you, my starting lineup of products. I am adding more and more, so please, make sure you check back often!

New Earrings Listed

Here’s what else I’ve been working on!

I have revamped my crochet earrings and they are now available in the shop.

I love the new delicious colors that I have sourced, as they tend to reflect my love of the shiny, ethnic and colorful! One of the yarns I used is actually a sari yarn (a nod to my love of India).

This collection is named “Fa’ari”, which is the Yoruba word for ‘uncommon elegance and beauty.’ I even imprinted this transliteration onto the earring cards.

Enjoy the visual feast!

These earrings are available in my online shop, and will soon be carried at Decoy Art Boutique at 1277 N Fairfield Rd, Beavecreek, Ohio.

The New-New…

Here’s what I’ve been up to, and just listed in my shop.

For so long I was determined to stay away from beads, but dagnabit! there are some gorgeous beads out there! I have decided to incorporate the bead-crack  into my crochet earrings. I now present you with The Constellation Collection, now available here.  I heart these, don’t you?!

they’re baaack…and a little contest

The earrings, that is. So guess who’s shop is no longer empty?

That’s where I’ve been, in case you wondered.  I’ve been tending to my (previously) very empty etsy shop. It is now on its way to being chock full of fun and unique accessories for both you, and your home.

And now a few announcements:

*I have decided to limit the “Thrifty Tuesday” segment to just once a month or so.  I’m finding it a little tough to keep up the pace.

*I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of gal.  I just cannot conform.  Tried it, hated it. This also means my posts will be more free-form. Still on topic, but free-form. Why be who I’m not?

*In the interest of simplicity, my Jesplayin shop will remain open and will contain everything I make for sale, whether it’s housewares, personal accessories or what have you.  I’ve had that shop the longest, and it just makes sense to keep it open. This means no more separate AfroMartha shop.

*Contest Time*

I am however going to change the business name to “YayToonDay”.  Leave a comment below as to what that name means or how you think I came up with it.  I will use a randomizer to select a winner from the CORRECT answers (hint: go research). The prize: A free pair of earrings of your choice from my shop.

Good Luck!

Introducing The Mini-Five-Speed

At long last, I have some purses to post on my Etsy page.  I present to you The Mini-Five-Speed Clutch in two designs: “Cornrows” and “Funtun”. Thanks to my friend V. for naming this purse.  I am the absolute worst at naming my products.

About the purse: The clutch is tiny (hence the Mini). It is 100% soft buttery leather and measures 5″ x 9″ and it is absolutely perfect for stowing your essentials for a night on the town, or to use as a wallet. It also features a colorful vintage fabric lining on the inside.

About the surface design. I printed this clutch in 2 designs, “Cornrows” and “Funtun”.  Cornrows reminds me of the intricate plaited hairstyles I wore as a kid in Nigeria, and “Funtun” is an interpolation of the adinkra symbol “Funtunfunefu Denkyemfunefu”.

I love these purses, and hope you do too.  So go check it out!
